External datasets

The CHeReL regularly links other datasets that are not contained within the Master Linkage Key.  A large number of datasets have been linked on a 'link and destroy' basis.

This section of the website is being progressively expanded to include information about these datasets, with metadata where available. 

NSW Register of Congenital Conditions

The NSW Register of Congenital Conditions (formerly known as the NSW Birth Defects Register) is a population-based surveillance system established to monitor congenital conditions detected during pregnancy or at birth, or diagnosed in infants up to one year of age.

NSW Pap Test Register

The NSW Pap Test Register collects data on women who have a pap test in NSW and contains details of the woman undergoing the test and test results including Pap tests, cervical histology tests or HPV DNA tests

The Hunter Community Study

The Hunter Community Study (HCS) is a cohort study of older Australians (aged 55-85) living in the Hunter Region of NSW. Demographic, clinical and biochemical (blood test) information has been collected from the participants between 2004 and 2008

Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health

The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) is a national longitudinal study of three birth cohorts of women (1973-1978, 1946-1951, 1921-1926) which collects information on women's health and well-being to inform policy makers at state and federal level

Pharmaceutical Drugs of Addiction System

The Pharmaceutical Drugs of Addiction System (PHDAS) is an administrative database used by the Pharmaceutical Services Unit of NSW Health to administer programs which involve the prescription of drugs of addiction. PHDAS consists of three subsystems: the Methadone Subsystem, the Non-Methadone Subsystem and the Stimulant Notification Subsystem.

PHDAS databases record patient details, prescriber details, administration point details, program (treatment) information and patient/program-specific details.

About Us

The CHeReL was established in 2006 and is jointly managed by the Cancer Institute NSW and the NSW Ministry of Health. The ACT Government Health Directorate, the University of New South Wales, the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Western Sydney are members of the CHeReL and are represented on the CHeReL Advisory Committee.
